TodayForward is a personal finance app that facilitates the financial planning process using leading technologies in an environment free from sales and marketing. Sounds like fun, right? Okay, let's be honest, the financial planning process isn't fun...that is, unless it helps you accomplish your goals.
Better Process, Better Results
Have you ever studied the habits of rich people? The common theme you'll find is that each and every person that has maintained a high level of financial security for any length of time uses a process. They have a process to produce income, a process to save, a process to invest, a process to protect their wealth, they've got a process for all kinds of things, and each is designed to get results.
Lasting financial security isn't created haphazardly, and even when money does fall from the sky, it doesn't always stick around. Lottery winners go broke, celebrities file bankruptcy, many people can be rich for a little while, but to have it last a lifetime? That requires consistency that can only be achieved through a well constructed process.
Our Process
The financial planning process as outlined by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards is six steps and can be found here. Our process is modeled after theirs, but it's a little different because we're not a living, breathing, financial planner. Here it is:
- Prioritize Needs - After creating an account with TodayForward, you will be asked a series of basic yes, no, or I don't know questions to help us prioritize your needs. This sets the agenda for the financial planning process.
- Gather Information - In this step, you will upload information about your assets and liabilities so we can better understand your financial landscape. This also makes creating plans and monitoring progress a much simpler endeavor.
- Create Plans of Action - You can create plans across 21 areas of personal finance. We'll have these ranked by order of importance so you can focus your energies where it counts the most.
- Take Action - To turn your plans into reality, you must take action. While most of these actions are completely foreign to you now, our step-by-step guidance will help you learn what you need so you can make informed decisions.
- Monitor Progress - We provide you with a number of tools to monitor your progress so you'll always know how you're doing. Whether things are going the right direction or not, you'll see it and be able to make adjustments as needed.
In a nutshell, that is the process, and it is very similar to that used by independent financial planners around the country. The only difference is that we do it with technology for a fraction of the cost.
No-Go Zone
As you're working through our process, we've decided to take annoying and often costly distractions out of the equation. We are a no-go zone for advertisers, marketers, and salespeople because we believe that the financial planning process should take place in an environment free from conflicts of interest. Because of this, you can be confident that the information we provide you is strictly for your benefit.
Leading Edge Technology
To make the process as easy as possible, we are proud to deliver our solution using industry leading technologies. Our site runs on Microsoft's cloud computing platform, Windows Azure, that delivers a robust set of tools and tremendous scalability. In addition, our planning and management capabilities are a step above prior generations as we have incorporated account aggregation, monte carlo analysis, and a proprietary decision forest.
Of course, this is all exciting for us because we're nerds, but you'll enjoy the convenience and performance that these technologies deliver. Just know that we're always looking for ways to make your life easier.
